  Gamma Knife

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery is a radically different approach to radiation treatment for certain brain disorders, including malignant tumors which have metastasized to the brain. This non-surgical procedure enables physicians to selectively destroy brain tumors or blood vessel abnormalities deep within the brain without an incision. High concentrations of radiation beams are precisely directed onto a specific target to destroy the abnormal cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. The Palmetto Health Cancer Centers is fortunate to have the only Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center in South Carolina. The radiation oncology physician and physicists at South Carolina Oncology are important members of the treatment team at the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center. Click for more detailed information.
