  Radiation Oncology

1SCOA has been the pacesetter in radiation oncology in South Carolina and much of the Southeast. We were one of the first in South Carolina to implement revolutionary radiation therapy treatments including BAT ultrasound, IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, and we are one of a limited number of private practices with access to Gamma Knife technology. Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) are tools our radiation oncologists utilize to target cancer with sub millimeter accuracy. These therapies allow our physicians to minimize the effect of radiation on healthy tissue surrounding a tumor which provide our patients with the best possible outcome and shortest recovery time. Our radiation oncologists are board certified experts in evaluating cancer and treatment options, and together with our medical physicists, are part of a highly sought-after cancer fighting team.

The SCOA radiation oncologists and medical physicists work closely together with neurosurgeons around the state in the Gamma Knife Center of the Carolinas, where brain tumor, vascular abnormalities and other neurologic conditions are treated on an outpatient basis rather than with complicated invasive surgery that requires prolonged hospitalization. They work closely with medical oncologists and nursing staff to plan and administer radiation therapy in the most effective and aggressive manner possible without compromising our patients’ health and safety. Our participation in clinical research trials with prominent National Cancer Institute affiliated groups brings cutting-edge therapy to South Carolina.
