Free Cancer Screening Program for Midlands First Responders | SCOA Protects Firefighters & EMS

South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA) is stepping up to protect the health of those who protect us. First responders including firefighters, EMS, and law enforcement officers face higher risks of cancer due to smoke, toxic chemical exposure, and stress.

That’s why SCOA launched a first-of-its-kind cancer screening program in the Midlands, offering free, comprehensive screenings all in one visit. This innovative program includes:

  • Bloodwork
  • Lung cancer screenings (chest X-rays or low-dose CT scans)
  • Colonoscopies starting at age 45
  • Mammograms for women starting at 40
  • Yearly skin checks

Medical oncologist Dr. Joe Collins and the SCOA team have made the process quick, stress-free, and friendly, and so far, about two-thirds of Irmo firefighters have already benefited from this life-saving initiative. If you’re a first responder in Richland, Lexington, or Kershaw counties, SCOA’s program is available to you because early detection saves lives.
